Dental Implants from €1500 at Pearl Dental and Beauty, Dublin 2

Dental implants at Pearl Dental, Dublin 2 are more affordable than ever, with fees from €1500 for multiple units. And these are Ankylos implants, one of the leading implant manufacturers in Europe, not mini-implants or obscure cheaper implant types. The fee for a standard dental implant at Pearl Dental includes everything- assessment, surgery stage, restoration and review visits. There are no hidden fees to surprise or disappoint, and we pride ourselves on our committment to service and customer satisfaction. Please note that a definite quote can only be provided after assessment, as there are many factors that influence the treatment plan, and therefore the cost, of dental implants.

A dental implant is generally the most complete and effective method of replacing a missing tooth, and is a remarkably civilised procedure, generally requiring no time away from work, (except the treatment appointments), usually involves little or no pain, and is now an incredibly reliable procedure in the hands of a competent and experienced dentist who is prepared to take the necessary time and care to ensure success. Dental implants are not a procedure to be undertaken during a weeks holiday to foreign climes, as the planning, consent and undertaking of such procedures requires more than a cursory visit, and dental implants that go wrong often require immediate intervention, which can be much more difficult to access if the dentist is 3 hours away on a plane!

Many successful and competent dentists carry out dental implant procedures in other countries, but if they tell you that you only need a weeks visit, move on to the more conscientious dentist who accepts the fact that implants need careful planning, careful explanation and consent, and a high level of technical skill to be successful. Wherever you decide that your implants will be carried out, ensure that the dentist is expecting at least 5 or 6 visits from initial assessment to final restoration, and ensure that they give a warranty of at least 5 years on all the work, with no further cost to be incurred by you if anything goes wrong.

Here at Pearl Dental, Dublin 2, we guarantee all of our dental implants, fixtures and crowns for a minimum of 5 years (subject to certain criteria), and don’t expect you to pay for anything should there be a failure in that timeframe.

Finally, be aware that dental implants require excellent maintenance regimes, both by you, and your dentist. Here at Pearl Dental, we advise all of our dental implant patients to see our hygienist, Joann, on a regular basis to ensure that the implant is maintained impeccably, along with the rest of the teeth, and to ensure that the patient’s oral hygiene is optimised to maximise gum health.

Facial Aesthetics at Pearl Dental and Beauty, Dublin 2, and also Newbridge, Co. Kildare

As many of you are aware, here at Pearl Dental Practice and Beauty Salon, we aim to please, and are committed to bringing you as complete a service as possible under one roof, making it possible for you to arrange just one visit to source all your dental, beauty, skincare and product needs. In addition to this, we also offer a facial aesthetic service, allowing you to say goodbye to those lines and wrinkles with the minimum of fuss.

Following a consultation with our Facial Aesthetician, and Cosmetic Dentist, Dr Paul Redbond, your concerns and requirements can be assessed, and appropriate options discussed and prescribed as required. As injectable line and wrinkle treatments are a prescription only product, it can only be prescribed and administered by a suitably trained and qualified professional, and for optimum results, appropriate dosage and use is imperative. In some cases, injectable treatments are not an appropriate treatment option, and in these circumstances, we will advise of other possible treatment options that may address your concerns and requirements.

You have all heard of some of the procedures and products used for the management of lines and wrinkles, which include muscle relaxing injections, Collagen based fillers and more. We can provide any of these where appropriate, and can advise as to the best treatment option for your specific case.

In simple terms, the treatment options are grouped into 2 categories- Dermal Fillers, such as Restylane, Juvederm, Softline and Teosyal, and Muscle Relaxants, or ‘muscle freezing injections’.

The Dermal fillers are exactly that, and are usually based on Hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance in almost all animals. The product is injected into the skin, just underneath the region of the line/ wrinkle, and immediately ‘fills’ the area to lift the line and reduce it. The muscles in the area are still fully functional after filler treatments. The treatment can sometimes be undertaken with topical anaesthesia only, but for more complex cases, dental anaesthetic injections are used to numb the area before treatment commences.

Generally these products are used for the lower part of the face around the nose and mouth, but other areas can also benefit from this type of treatment. Most dermal filler treatments would last between 6- 18 months, and can be repeated as required.

The Dermal filler treatments can also be used for enhancement and recontouring of the lips, and reshaping of the nose and other facial areas, and because the products are naturally broken down in the body over time, you cannot be left misshapen or disfigured as a result of this treatment.

Muscle relaxing or freezing injections act directly on the muscles responsible for most lines in the upper section of the face (forehead, between and around the eyes), and block the nerve endings which cause the muscle to contract.  The active product is a toxin, but in the doses required for aesthetic treatments, is considered completely safe, and much larger doses are used for medical procedures than we would ever be using.

The treatment is not instant, but takes effect over a period of approximately 2 weeks, after which it will generally last between 3- 6 months before a top-up is required. Usually, no anaesthesia is required for the administration of muscle relaxing injections.

Easy to make Homemade Facial Masks!

Home and Professional Facials at Pearl Beauty Salon, Dublin 2

Face masks play a vital role in your regular skin care regime and should be used once or twice a week, depending on the condition of your skin and the type of mask used. After thoroughly cleansing and using a scrub on your skin, your mask should be applied to the neck and face area.

Here at Pearl Beauty Salon, we believe that a combination of professional facial treatments, along with diligent home care makes for the best skin care regime for everyone. All of our professional Dermalogica facial treatments, including the highly regarded Prescriptive Facial, are currently available with 50% off. Crystal Clear Microdermabrasion, a favourite treatment of many celebrities and popular figures, is also available at 50% off, so give us a call on 01 679 0625 to make your booking. Follow the links for more information on these treatments.

Not everybody has the same skin type on all areas of their face, so you do not have to use the same mask all over if this is so, i.e.- an oily t-zone will need a deep cleansing type of mask whereas if the rest of your face is dry you will need to use a more moisturising mask there.

Homemade facial masks provide essential nutrients and vitamins to dull, lifeless, and aging skin, and skin with excess oil production, by using ingredients easily available at home. These homemade masks can unclog pores and hydrate facial skin, providing the crucial moisture needed to combat aging and dry skin. Some can exfoliate in addition to supplying moisture, providing nutrients, aiding in conditioning, and cleansing the skin.

Homemade facial masks use ingredients with antioxidant, demulcent and emollient properties. They work by drawing blood to the surface of the skin and stimulating the skin’s circulation to the face and neck, replacing moisture lost due to aging, dryness, and other factors, deep cleansing and absorbing excess oil on the skin and also by encouraging beautiful skin tone, skin firming and cell renewal. Using different ingredients you can customize your own facial masks at home to suit your skin type.

Making a homemade facial mask is extremely easy with natural skin care recipes. You just need to open your kitchen cabinet to mix up a natural homemade facial skin care delight. A homemade facial mask, using natural ingredients from your refrigerator, pantry, or even from your garden, is a beneficial, enriching and relaxing anti-aging skin rejuvenation treat. Here are a few suggestions for some facial masks for you to rustle up and use at home. And don’t forget there are many more ingredient’s out there, experiment with them and see which homemade facial mask suits your skin the best!

Masks for Dry Skin

  • ½ avocado
  •  ¼ cup honey
  • plain olive oil

Mix these ingredients together (make sure to mash into a creamy pulp) and apply to the face for approx 20 minutes, and rinse off with a warm cloth. The fat from the avocado is very hydrating, as is the natural honey.

  • egg yolk
  • 1 banana
  • 2tsp olive oil/ honey

Mix the ingredients together until a paste is formed. Apply to the face and neck and leave for 15minutes. Rinse off with warm water and pat dry.

Masks for Oily Skin

  •  tsp lemon juice
  • 2 egg whites
  • 2 tsp honey
  • 1 cup strawberries ( test behind your ear first- waiting for 24hrs to make sure no reaction occurs- because many people are allergic to strawberies used this way even thougth they can eat them just fine)Mix these ingredients and leave on for about 10 minutes, and rinse off with a warm cloth. Lemon and Strawberries both work as astringents, helping to absorb excess oil on the skin.

  • ½ cucumber
  • 1 tbsp natural yogurt
  • few drops of lemon/ lime/ orange

Puree the cucumber in a blender then mix in the yogurt and the few drops of juice and apply to face. Leave for 20 minutes before rinsing off with a clean warm cloth.

  •  1½  tomato
  • potato flour

Puree the flesh of the tomato and mix with some potato flour to a spreadable paste and apply to the skin. Leave on for 15-20 minutes, rinse off with warm water.

Masks for Ageing Skin

  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 4 tbsp warm water
  • ¼ avocado
Dissolve the sugar in the warm water and avocado, and do not use until done. Sugar can be harsh for thinning skin, so make sure it is completely mixed in with the water and avocado. Apply the mixture and massage in small upward cicles for about 5 minutes, then leaving the mask sit on the skin for a further 5 minutes. When you are done, rinse the face and pat dry. Since sugar is used to gently exfoliate, it works best with maturing skin, as well as the mixture softening and hydrating the lines caused by ageing.

  • 1 tbsp finely ground oatmeal
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp avocado/ almond oil
  • 1 tbsp rose clay

Mix enough water with the ingredients to make a paste. Leave on skin for 15-20mins. Wash off with warm water and pat dry.

Masks for Sensitive Skin

  • 1 cup natural yogurt (just-out-of-the-fridge cold)
  • ½ cup oatmeal (any type of basic oatmeal works here)

Mix the ingredients together. Apply to the skin for 10-15 minutes.
Wash off mask with a washcloth steamed in the microwave (careful that it’s not too hot). This mask is great for soothing chapped, sunburned or otherwise irritated skin.
It also works well for other skin types. For oily skin, add a couple drops of lemon or lime juice. For dry skin, mix in a couple tablespoons of honey.

  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 tbsp honey

Mix the banana and honey together. You can add a few drops of juice from an orange or a lemon if your skin is slightly oily.
Apply to face for 15 minutes before rinsing with a cool washcloth/steaming warm washcloth.

Masks for the Eyes

1. To lighten dark circles under your eyes, wrap a grated raw potato in cheesecloth and apply to eyelids for 15-20 minutes. Wipe off residue and apply an eye cream.

2. Slice cucumber and put on your eyes for half an hour everyday for 15 days to lighten dark circles.

3. To help diminish dark under-eye circles and puffy eye’s, apply damp tea-bags over the eyes and leave for 15-20minutes before removing them.

10 Simple Tips on Beating That Cellulite Just in Time for Summer, with a little help from Pearl Beauty Salon, Dublin 2

Inch loss body wraps 50% off at Pearl Beauty Salon, Dublin 2

Are you sick and tired of that “orange peel” look? Unfortunately for us women, (yes, it’s quite a rare thing to see a man with dimpled quads and glutes- and I will explain why later), we are cursed with the “cellulite genes”.

So, if a woman eats healthily, exercises etc, cellulite can be prevented from forming and can be kept at bay. But in this day and age, in our unhealthy fast food and junk food comsuming Irish society, statistics show 95% of women are suffering with the disorder. Yes suffering! You do not have to be overweight either to have cellulite, even on the thinnest of models it can sometimes be seen. So what is cellulite? And why do we get it?

Cellulite is a disorder of the connective tissue in the subcutaneous fatty layer of the skin. Our connective tissue contains fat cells which store the fat we eat and the toxins from our intake. In a woman’s body, fat cells are arranged in large upright chambers, allowing for large amounts of fat to be stored. In a man’s body, fat cells are arranged in small slanted chambers, therefore allowing small quantities of fat to be stored. A man’s body is also made up of more muscle to fat ratio, as opposed to a woman’s composition. Anyway, if you eat very unhealthily, do not exercise and intake quantities of alcohol, cigarettes, caffeine etc, where do you think all this fat is stored? Yes, in the large fat cells partly composing our bodies! Over time the fat and toxins in these cells build up and start to harden giving the dimpled effect.

Not only does an unhealthy body contribute to a woman’s cellulite problem, but we also have a helping hand with the hormone Oestrogen. The joys!

The good thing is though, if we put our minds to it and decide we want to beat this awful “orange peel” look, we can! And in this recession time, I have put together a few simple low- cost tips on how you can banish your cellulite, in a matter of weeks or months(depending on the severity).

1 ) Firstly, the most important rule of the process is??? Drink plenty of water. You need to be drinking two litres of water a day to flush out all of those fat cells of fatty deposits and toxins, and also to keep the skin hydrated and looking healthy and smooth.

2 ) Everyday whilst having your shower, exfoliate for five minutes on the affected areas to soften the fat cells under the skin and to increase the circulation of blood and waste. Always scrub in upward motions towards the heart. You can make your own scrub at home with olive oil and coffee grains, it works wonders!

3 ) Cut out any bad foods (especially caffeine) and start eating more vegetables, fruit, fibre and fish, especially green veg, which contains enormous amounts of antioxidants. These types of foods won’t get trapped or harden in fat cells.

4 ) Excercise! Not only will it keep your body youthful, slim and toned, it will speed up your metabolism and waste flow out of the body and prevent fat from storing and hardening.

5 ) Cut out cigarettes and alcohol. These are the worst offenders! They are full of nasty toxins which accumulate in the body and help cellulite take over. Never mind all of the other health risks involved!

6 ) Buy yourself a body brush. They don’t cost much and using it on the affected areas twice a day, before showering if possible, will help you no end in banishing the cellulite. Use in upward stokes towards the heart and make sure to brush about 50 strokes on each area, each time. Try to get a brush with quite strong bristles. You may find it stings to begin with but this will lessen as you get used to it.

7 ) The second thing you need after your shower to apply to the affected areas is a cellulite cream/ gel. Massage this firmly into the skin twice a day, again in upward strokes.

8 ) When in the shower, alternate the temperature of the water from hot to cold , back again and so forth. Doing this is great for the circulation and getting everything moving under the skin.

9 ) When you are on the way to beating your cellulite why don’t you reward all your hard work with a nice treat. Body Wraps are an excellent way to help banish cellulite and they are pampering as well! Here at Pearl Beauty Salon we offer a fantastic anti-cellulite inch loss body wrap, which will boost your confidence even more and definitely have you ready for the summer. At a low cost of only €22.50 at the moment, it is the perfect treat for your new programme.

10) A glass of hot water and lemon each morning or herbal tea is a great anti-oxidant and will help you get rid of those toxins and nasty fats even quicker. They aid digestion and a few cups/glasses a day will not only detox your body but can actually stoke up your metabolism.  Plus there are so many delicious and tasty flavours out there at the moment.

Finally, get them legs waxed and grab your bikini because you are now ready for a cellulite free summer!

Dental Hygienist Services at Pearl Dental Practice and Beauty Salon, Dublin 2

A Dental Hygienist visit keeps teeth in tip-top shape

Probably the most undervalued and abused member of the dental team, both by dentists and patients, Dental Hygienists have a hard life, as many dentists use them as a depository for all the patients and work they don’t want themselves, and many patients don’t quite understand their role when they’re sent to see them.

In our world here at Pearl Dental, Dublin 2, our hygienist, Joann, is considered a vital part of our dental team, and helps maintain optimum oral health for our patients, as well as ensuring that complex restorations are cleaned and maintained as they should be, for maximum lifespan. One of the most important tasks that a dental hygienist undertakes is the treatment of gum disease and the maintenance of the gum health thereafter. If you have bleeding gums, or find that your dentist spends only a couple of minutes cleaning your teeth at your check-up visit, it’s probably time to see the hygienist to find out what a properly clean mouth feeels like.

That smile needs care. Your hygienist is the ideal person to provide it.

If you want a clean, healthy mouth, perfect oral hygiene, and immaculately kissable breath, a hygienist should become one of your best friends, as she will be able to advise you on the most appropriate oral hygiene techniques for your mouth, will clean your teeth more diligently, and more thoroughly than the majority of dentists, and should take a personal interest in you becoming a paragon of oral health. She is generally able to treat the majority of cases of gum disease, and you can see her as often as you wish to maintain that perfect smile, without having to see the dentist every time.

If you get into knots with floss, drink mouthwash as an aperitif, and use interdental brushes to clean your ears, you need a visit to the hygienist ASAP!

Visit the hygienist to learn the best hygiene techniques for your mouth

Our hygienist, Joann, is available Wednesdays and Fridays in our studio on Nassau Street, and will gently, but thoroughly, clean and polish your mouth, and coax you into better oral hygiene habits. She is also appreciated by us dentists too, as she can clean a mouth better than any of us are able!

Root Canal Treatment at Pearl Dental Practice and Beauty Salon, Dublin 2

Root canal treatment has long inspired fear and dread in all who hear the words, but here at Pearl Dental, Dubin 2, we don’t believe it should be that way. Prices for RCT start from €450 for simple, routine, single rooted teeth, and reach around €850 for the most complex multi-rooted back teeth. These fees are tax deductable at 20%, and can also be reduced if you are qualified under your PRSI contributions.

All of our dentists are trained in the latest techniques:

  • for anaesthesia before root canal treatment
  • for effective isolation of the tooth during root canal treatment, to ensure optimum sterilisation of the root canals
  • for efficient and rapid cleaning of the root canals
  • in effective methods of sealing the canals afterwards.

The procedure is quite time consuming, as effective sterilising of root canals takes patience, care and advanced techniques, but the procedure should be ENTIRELY painless, should only need to be undertaken once, assuming that optimum techniques are used, and enables an otherwise doomed tooth to be saved for the longterm.

Root canal treatment is not cheap, due to the time and materials used to undertake the procedure effectively, and if you do require a root canal treatment, use this checklist to see if your dentist is anywhere near up to speed. Remember, a failed root treatment can often lead to loss of the tooth, so you want to ensure that the chances of success are maximised, as follows:

  1. Rubber dam This is essential in ensuring a sterile environment, and eliminating any leakage of chemicals into the mouth during the procedure.
  2. Magnification. Almost every specialist in root canal therapy will insist that root canal treatment can never be undertaken effectively without magnification to enable maximum visualisation of the root canal system. This is imperative in ensuring that every canal is located and cleaned effectively. We regularly find ourselves undertaking retreatment of a tooth that has previously been root treated elsewhere due to the fact that a canal had been missed. Re treatment is expensive, and you don’t want the job done twice!
  3. Nickel Titanium Files. All of the most recent developments in RCT revolve around the use of these types of specialist files, which make for faster and more accurate cleaning of the canals.
  4. Thermal Filling Materials. It is generally accepted that thermally packed fillers are the most effective method of sealing root canals.
  5. Tooth Seal after RCT. For almost all back teeth, it is recommended that a crown be placed after RCT to strengthen and protect the tooth, which can become brittle after RCT. Your dentist should advise you of this before the procedure begins, as the crown may be more expensive than the RCT, and you should be aware of all the costs before you begin.

The basic procedure for RCT can be found below, and for more information, see our main site, call us on 01 679 0625, or e-mail us at
